President Donald Trump appeared to take another step towards endorsing U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Tennessee, in this year’s gubernatorial race.

On Wednesday, Blackburn shared a video clip on social media of the President praising her at the Trump Accounts summit that day, and indicating he believes she’ll win the race to succeed Governor Bill Lee.

“Marsha Blackburn is an incredible person, unfortunately, she’s running for governor, said Trump in the video clip. “I’d love her not to. I’ve begged her. I say, ‘Marsha, we don’t want to lose you in the Senate. But I have to say they’re lucky. They’re lucky to get you because you are a talent and a great person, and you’ve been with me all the way, and I appreciate it.”

“Thank you for the support and kind words, Mr. President! As the next Governor of Tennessee, you have my word: I will NEVER let you down,” tweeted Blackburn in response.

Senator Blackburn announced her bid for governor last August, and she’ll face U.S. Congressman John Rose, and State Representative Monty Fritts, R-Kingston, in the August Republican Primary. Polls show the winner will be heavily favored in November over the eventual Democratic primary winner.

Endorsement Impact

Trump’s endorsements have proved important in recent Republican primaries in Tennessee. That includes last year’s endorsement of eventual U.S. Congressional District 7 special election winner Matt Van Epps, and 2024’s endorsement of eventual Tennessee Senate District 4 winner Bobby Harshbarger.

Wednesday’s praise of Blackburn is not considered an official endorsement by the president, but several supporters of the U.S. Senator emphasized the importance of the public recognition on social media.

“Smart move by @realDonaldTrump supporting longtime supporter @VoteMarsha,” said Congressman Tim Burchett, R-TN, on X.

“@RealDonaldTrump saying what we already knew about @VoteMarsha! Looking forward to having her as our next governor,” said State Representative Mark Cochran, R-Englewood, on X.

Blackburn has been a vocal supporter of President Trump and his plan to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education and provide more power to the states.
