We track four things that tell you whether a school is preparing students for success after graduation:
Graduation Rate — The percentage of students who finish high school in 4 years. The state average is about 92%. If a school is below 85%, that's a red flag worth understanding.
Ready Graduate — Tennessee tracks whether graduates are truly prepared for college or careers. This means scoring 21+ on the ACT, earning an industry certification, or enlisting in the military. This is the most important number to watch. State average is about 52%.
College-Going Rate — The percentage who enroll in any college within one year of graduating. State average is about 57%. A low rate isn't always bad—some students pursue careers, military, or trade programs instead.
ACT Composite — The average ACT score at the school. A 21 is considered "college ready" by Tennessee standards. The state average is about 18.7, meaning most schools fall below the benchmark.
